Live Your Life…
I hope you all are doing well. Last week was one of those weeks where lots of things were not going totally right; from little inconveniences like dry cleaning and prescriptions not being ready to have to adjust our morning drive to school to bigger stuff in the lives of loved ones. I felt a palpable heaviness inside me. As the week wore on, I could feel frustration and overwhelmed bubbling up. One of the effects of mindfulness is that we tend to notice more clearly what is going on inside us…. (especially in challenging moments). And when we notice the suffering we gain the opportunity to take mindful, intentional, conscious action and that is what I did. About halfway through the week, I made a decision. I stopped looking at all the things that were going wrong (that were out of my control) and really focused my energy on what was going right. This quote from Albert Einstein became my mantra last week– I repeated it to myself many times to help me stay with my intention and it is what I shared with my classes as well.
“Live your life as if nothing is a miracle, or as if everything is a miracle.”
On the mat our asana practice took us on a journey towards Tittibhasana (pictured above), but really the practice was to connect to the miracles in the body along the way… to focus on what our body CAN do and not what it can’t. We CAN CHOOSE how we view our bodies, our practice, and our lives… to notice all the miracles or none of them. The power of choice is a huge part of this practice, and I am so grateful for it.
