Take your Shot

I hope you all are doing well. My son is in the final weeks of deciding which university he will attend next year. He has been blessed with several excellent choices but with that blessing comes the difficulty of making a decision. We all have our own strategies when it comes to decision making and with mindfulness we can see the patterns that arise from those decisions. His process and our attempts to help guide him reminded me of this saying.
Life is like a Camera:
* Just focus on what is important
* Capture the good times
* Develop from the negative
and if things don’t work out
* Take another shot
On the mat this is a great practice to follow; to move through poses with the reminder to focus on what is important and be with the good, to develop strength from the challenge and to keep practicing. Even as we struggle or wiggle or try something new we are in charge of what we capture and how we practice. I reminded students several times that they are taking their own “photos” on the mat and with that they have the power to focus on what is important (and what is not), to experience the positives in what they are doing in their bodies and minds, to develop strength and resilience from the physical challenges and to continue to practice.
Off the mat this is also a powerful concept. When our mindfulness practice helps us remember what is important we can prioritize and focus on those things. That allows us to be more connected to the good than the bad in our lives. This also helps us to learn from our challenges or mistakes and then as we keep practicing, keep trying new things we continue to grow from what we have learned.
Whether it is big decisions (like college) or smaller everyday type ones, making mindful decisions is the Key to Happiness. I know this to be true so fully that it was my inspiration for developing my KLARITY Mindsette Mindfulness program and it is what we delve more deeply into on all of my retreats. Speaking of retreats; as I mentioned, Morocco is SOLD OUT and KM RESET Retreat in Belize is filling up so if you have interest, please reach out to me or check out the details below. There are only 14 rooms on this private island retreat.
I wish you all a week of being your own “photographers”. Focus on what is truly important, capture it in your minds, grow from the challenges and keep taking shots.
