Practice the Art of Thankfulness
Last weekend was mothers day and I found myself truly thankful for the simple gift of having both of my children with me. There are the big moments we are programmed to be grateful for but we also have the opportunity to find gratitude in the everyday moments. It’s a practice that as with any other practice, we do get better at. I shared this quote with my students this past week as a reminder of how this works.
“The more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.” –Norman Vincent Peale
We used our bodies on the mat to practice. Yes, we noticed the aches, pains and restrictions in the body but we also practiced giving thanks for what was working; the way our bodies work for us every day in ways we don’t even think about.
Off the mat it is the same. When we extend our gratitude practice to the everyday things, we expand the opportunity to practice ‘the art of thankfulness”. Noticing when the traffic light changes quickly or when the rain waits until you get home to start, allows us to feel grateful more of the time. One of the many things I am thankful for is to be able to share my message with all of you week after week.
