Recipe for Resilience

Happy Monday!  This past week was really great. I had the chance to teach at 3 new studios and that is very exciting. When we approach new things there are several mindfulness tools we can deploy. I have shared many of them with you through this newsletter but one of the most powerful is RESILIENCE.

The practices we use to deploy resilience when we need it can help us shift adversity into opportunity and disappointment into growth. How many times have we found ourselves, after the fact, being thankful something didn’t go the way we wanted?

When I am channeling the powers of resilience I always remember what I think of as a “photographer’s recipe” so it became my inspiration for the week.

  1. FOCUS on what’s important
  2. CAPTURE the good times
  3. DEVELOP from the negative
and if things don’t work out…..
  4. TAKE ANOTHER SHOT

I asked all my students to think of themselves as a type of photographer in their bodies; to use this recipe to stay focused on what was important in the pose and the practice, to enjoy what was working and felt good, to learn and let go of what did not, and to continue practicing.

Cultivating resilience in the body is very important to minimize physical suffering and cultivating resilience in the mind and the heart offers the same opportunity to minimize emotional suffering. With our recipe as a reminder, the power of resilience is there for us to cultivate…. as long as we focus on what is truly important, be present and capture all the joy, learn from our challenges and keep practicing!!

I have lots of exciting things happening so bear with me here as I share them.
