The Power of Perspective

Happy Presidents Day! I hope many of you are enjoying a well deserved day off.
Last weekend I was at an outdoor concert with a friend of mine. The band played lots of covers from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and I knew almost all the songs by heart. A bit into their set they played “Take it Easy” by the Eagles. As I am sure like all of you, I have heard this song hundreds of times and as I was singing along with the lyrics one of the lines struck me “Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy”. It was as if I processed the meaning of those words for the first time; the wheels in our heads spinning around can truly “drive us crazy” sometimes but what also hit me was the reminder that we can hear things or see things over and over again and not connect to the meaning or the learning and then one day we do. The universe at times sends us the same message over and over again until we receive it. This realization and this quote became my message for this week.
“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.”
It is all about PERSPECTIVE!! Whether we are practicing on the mat or off; if we are looking for inspiration, we will find it. If we are open to receiving the messages from the universe, they will be there to be received. If we stay present and pay attention, then we connect with our intention. If we want to grow, there is always the opportunity to learn and evolve and if we DON’T WANT TO, WE WON’T. The choice we make about how we view the joys and challenges in our lives effects how we live and who we are.
This power we hold over our present and future karma continues to amaze me and I was grateful for the reminder this week. With practice, we can allow ourselves to slow down the wheels in the mind and open ourselves up to receiving inspiration from wherever it may come from…. even an Eagles song from 1972!
