The Practice is Everywhere

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday week. We arrived home yesterday from our amazing trip to Prague and Vienna visiting our daughter. It is powerful to visit places with so much history where we can see and walk through the streets of the past. Those places tell stories of the people who lived there; what their daily joys were as well as the hardships they experienced. They survived wars and plagues and lived each day focused on what was important. We also so enjoyed the incredible architecture and art, eating the local food and spending quality time together as a family.
The opportunity to step away and immerse yourself in a different culture is truly an elixir. I felt extremely present taking in the sights, experiencing the history and soaking in the wonderful time together as a family. Several times during this full immersion travel experience, I thought to myself that this is what a meditation practice also trains us to do. Whether its 5 minutes sitting still or 9 days traveling; continuing to exercise the minds ability to focus on what is important in the moment is what allows us to connect to the deepest power within ourselves; the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity and find joy.
Whatever we practice, we get better at. We know this is true when it comes to our bodies but it is even MORE powerful when we realize this opportunity in the mind. Being present is truly a PRESENT and it’s one we can give ourselves each day. .
