Collective Karma

Happy Monday. I hope you are all safe and well. I taught early in the week last week and my message in my classes was that often what we see as “in the way” actually “IS” the way. When we are experiencing difficulty there is usually a lesson we need to learn in order to guide us where we need to go. I truly believe this and have seen countless examples in my own life and others.
However, sometimes events occur that are beyond our individual lives and path. This is what I keep thinking about since the fires broke out in Los Angeles several days ago. I used to live in California and have many friends suffering there right now and my heart breaks along with theirs.
It is in those times that sometimes we wonder WHY this is happening? Am I being PUNISHED? The answer from a karmic perspective (while it may not make those suffering this nightmare feel much better) is NO.
When we explore the inner workings of the karmic principles, we learn that there is something called COLLECTIVE KARMA; things that happen that are the result of interweaving circumstances involving other people, political, economic or environmental factors. To live in a war torn country or experience a natural disaster are examples of when we are caught up in the collective karma of our time and place.
Whether we are experiencing what we see as “deviations” off our path or a complete disruption of it, I would offer similar guidance. Our internal attitudes, whether conscious or unconscious DO affect our external experience. If we can surrender any blame we might be carrying in ourselves and find a bit of acceptance for where we are in this moment (no matter how painful) it offers us the opportunity to start to see the path forward. I would ask you to be patient with yourself as well. The more encompassing the obstacles “in they way” are, the longer it may take to see “the way” forward but it does always show itself.
I am sending love and safety to all of you struggling with your path today.
