Ride the Waves

A new year can offer us the chance to set an intention for ourselves. I prefer setting an intention over making a resolution because intention offers a little more space for compassion and less space for self-judgment.

2022 has been a year of many transitions for me and those transitions brought with them intense emotions. Truthfully, there were times that I struggled with my practice.. we all do.  However,  I am grateful for the many many moments the practice provided me solace and perspective.

With the year of transition behind me, I am setting my intention for 2023 to cultivate more kindness. I shared that intention with my classes this week. There is an anonymous saying that to be kind we have to swerve regularly from our path.

Our path is usually largely driven by the wants and the fears of our daily condition. So, we need to practice “swerving” in order to widen our path toward kindness. Kindness shows itself in many forms and even simple ways like that extra moment to hold the door open for someone or a genuine smile help us in our deliberate training to be flexible, to swerve, and to sense the power of kindness.

I wish you all a beautiful year ahead. A year filled with joy, love, health, and lots of swerving.
